EMDR BASIC TRAINING
Your EMDR journey commences with the Basic EMDR Training program, which consists of a total of 50 hours: 20 hours dedicated to didactic training, 20 hours to skills training, and 10 hours for consultation with an EMDRAA Accredited Consultant, all spread out over a period. The training is usually delivered in 2 parts, Level 1 and Level 2, with Level 2 needing to be completed within 2 years of completing Level 1. Proficiency and expertise grow at each stage of the training process. While trainees are encouraged to gain practical experience during the initial training phase, only individuals who have completed the full 50 hours can be deemed adequately trained to conduct EMDR therapy.
Basic EMDR Training programs by EMDRAA Accredited Trainers receive approval from EMDRAA in Australia and adhere to the globally recognised curriculum established by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA)
To attain Full Membership status within the Association, trainees must successfully complete the detailed Basic Training Program outlined above.
FULL MEMBERSHIP WITH EMDRAA
Attaining Full Membership status signifies the completion of basic training requirements. Only individuals who have achieved Full Membership are eligible to be listed on EMDRAA’s Find a Therapist service.
To qualify for full membership, individuals must have successfully finished 50 hours of training (comprising 20 in-person or online lecture hours), engaged in 20 hours of hands-on practice, and completed 10 hours of consultation with an EMDRAA Accredited Consultant.
It’s important to note that EMDRAA membership is not a prerequisite for practicing EMDR Therapy, as the practice of any therapy remains unregulated and voluntary. EMDRAA’s role is to offer assistance to clinicians who have completed their training, providing support and guidance as they integrate EMDR into their therapeutic practices.
EMDRAA ACCREDITATION
Achieving accreditation as an EMDRAA Accredited Practitioner or Consultant After completing the Basic Training, practitioners have the opportunity to pursue accreditation as an EMDRAA Accredited Practitioner by engaging in consultation sessions focusing on their EMDR practice. While attendance at consultations is mandatory, accreditation is granted based on demonstrated competence across all aspects of EMDR practice
.EMDRAA Consultants offer a distinct service compared to Practitioners as they are authorised to provide consultation to individuals striving for Accredited Practitioner or Consultant status.
